Break-A-Way Specifications

PART 1- GENERAL

1.1 RELATED DOCUMENTS

A. Drawings and general provisions of the contract, including General and Supplementary Conditions and Division 1 Sections, apply to this Section.

1.2 SUMMARY

A. This section includes the following:

1. Break-A-Way tracks and Safety Tabs.
2. Break-A-Way shower curtains.
3. Break-A-Way box pleated window draperies.

1.3 PERFORMANCE REQUIREMENTS

A. Shower curtains and Break-A-Way draperies: Provide curtain fabric with the following characteristics:

1. Fabrics are flame resistant and are identical to those that have passed NFPA 701 when tested by a testing and inspecting agency acceptable to authorities having jurisdiction.

a. Identify fabrics with appropriate markings of applicable testing and inspecting agency.

1.4 SUBMITTALS

A. Product Data: Include durability, laundry temperature limits, and fire-test-response characteristics for each type of curtain fabric indicated.

B. Shop Drawings: Show layouts and types of Break-A-Way tracks, size of curtains, number of Safety Tabs, anchorage details, and conditions requiring accessories. Indicate dimensions taken from field measurements.

C. Samples for Initial Selection: For each type of curtain material indicated.

D. Samples for Verification: For each type of product required. Samples of size indicated below:

1. Curtain Fabric: 12 inches square swatch. Mark top and face of material.

1.5 PROJECT CONDITIONS

A. Environmental Limitations: Do not install Break-A-Way tracks until spaces are enclosed and waterproof, wet work in spaces is complete and dry, work above ceilings is complete, and ambient temperature and humidity conditions are maintained at the levels indicated for project when occupied for its intended use.

PART 2 – PRODUCTS

2.1 BREAK-A-WAY TRACKS

A. Manufacturer: Break-A-Way tracks shall be Model IFC-69 ceiling mounted or IFC-79 wall mounted track, as manufactured by Imperial Fastener Company.

B. Extruded Aluminum Track: IFC-69 Break-A-Way track shall be extruded 6063-T5 aluminum, 1-7/16” by 1-9/16” by .062” wall thickness, one piece, and ceiling mounted or IFC-79 Break-A-Way track shall be extruded 6063-T5 aluminum, 1-3/16" by 1-5/16" by .062" wall thickness, one piece, and wall mounted. IFC-79 Break-A-Way track cannot be spliced.

1. Curved track: Factory-fabricated, 12 inch radius bends.
2. Finish: Satin anodized.

C. Track Accessories: Safety Tabs 4” long and 3/4 ” wide. Provide three Safety Tabs per foot.

2.2 BREAK-A-WAY SHOWER CURTAINS

A. Manufacturer: Subject to compliance with requirements, provide products by the following:

1. Curtain fabric to be:

a. Color:

2. Curtain to have 1-1/2" loop tape sewn to top hem.

B. Mesh Top: No. 50, 20" wide, 1/2" hole nylon mesh (if applicable).

a. Color:

C. Clear Panel: At bottom (if applicable).

2.3 BREAK-A-WAY DRAPERIES

A. Manufacturer: Imperial Fastener Co., Break-A-Way draperies to be permanently flame resistant.

1. 4" box pleats, double lock stitched with 1-1/2" loop tape across the top for attachment to the Safety Tabs.

2. 3" lock stitched bottom hems.

3. Curtains are to have a flame resistant polyester lite liner. A flame resistant blackout liner is available.

2.4 SHOWER CURTAIN FABRICATION

A. Fabricate Break-A-Way shower curtains to comply with the following requirements:

1. Width equal to track length from which shower curtain is hung plus 6 inches added fullness.

2. Length equal to floor-to-ceiling height minus distance above the finished floor at bottom as follows:

a. Shower curtain: 2 inches

3. Top Hem: To be 1-1/2” wide and double lock stitched and 1-1/2" wide loop tape double lock stitched to top hem.

PART 3 - EXECUTION

3.1 EXAMINATION

A. Examine substrates and conditions, with installer present, for compliance with requirements for installation tolerance, and other conditions affecting performance of work.

1. Proceed with installation only after unsatisfactory conditions have been corrected.

3.2 INSTALLATION

A. General: Install tracks level and plumb, according to manufacturer's written instructions.

B. Curtain Safety Tabs: Provide Safety Tabs adequate for 4 inch spacing along full length of curtain.

C. Curtains: Hang curtains on each curtain track.
